With over 55,000 acres of terrain to explore, our self-guided Vail snowmobile rentals are the perfect way to discover Colorado’s pristine backcountry at your own pace. The Vail Pass Winter Recreation Area provides riders with over 80 miles of marked, groomed trails and offers more than 200 powder fields for guests who prefer to blaze their own path through untouched snow.
Rentals are available in 2-hour, 4-hour, and 8-hour sessions, departing from the Lodge at Camp Hale base camp at the foot of the Vail Pass Winter Recreation Area. Trips depart on the hour starting at 9:00 am daily. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled start time. For trail access and conditions, visit the White River National Forest website.
Self-Guided Snowmobile Rentals Near Vail, Colorado
Rentals are available for both single and double riders. Single riders receive capable and efficient Ski-Doo Renegade 600cc machines, while double riders receive Ski-Doo Grand Touring snowmobiles. Helmets and trail maps are included with every rental. Snowmobile suits, boots, and goggles are available for a small additional charge on a first come, first served basis.
The Lodge at Camp Hale serves as the base camp for your adventure, home to a full-service restaurant and a cozy, spacious lobby with fireplaces — the perfect place to warm up before or after your ride. Rental prices include gas and tax.

Rental Requirements & Policies
- Guests must provide their own transportation to the base camp. A 4×4 or all-wheel-drive vehicle is strongly recommended for all winter travel in Colorado.
- Helmets and trail maps are included with all rentals. Snowmobile suits, boots, and goggles are available for a small additional charge on a first come, first served basis.
- Rental prices include gas and tax.
- Snowmobile drivers must be 16 years of age with a valid driver’s license. Drivers must be 18 years of age or older to carry a passenger.
- Prices do not include a $20.00 per person USFS Trail Use & Grooming Fee.
- A credit card imprint, serving as a damage deposit, is required on all rentals.
- A signed liability waiver is required prior to rental departure.
- All Vail snowmobile rentals have a 24-hour cancellation policy.
